Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) might have lost the game against Sunrisers Hyderbad (SRH) on Thursday. But Nicholas Pooran’s six-hitting has certainly left many in awe. The Caribbean left-hander slammed 77 off just 37 deliveries with five fours and seven sixes to his name. It seemed like single-handedly Pooran will take his team home on the day. But he didn’t get any support from the other end and got out eventually with KXIP long way away from the target.
Though the game turned out to be one-sided in the end, until Nicholas Pooran was in the middle, it was filled with entertainment. The southpaw came in after Prabhsimran Singh was dismissed and took the attack to the opposition from the word go. Abhishek Sharma had to face the wrath first as he conceded two sixes but then Abdul Samad was taken apart for 28 runs in a single over with four maximums.
Overall, Pooran smacked as many as seven sixes in his innings and all of them were long enough. Even the long boundaries in Dubai couldn’t stop him from hitting the big ones. Rather one of the commentators on air even went on to say that he was making the stadium look like Sharjah.
In fact, three of Nicholas Pooran’s maximums travelled a distance of 100 and more metres. He also became the first batsman in the IPL 2020 to hit three sixes of 100 or more metres with the longest being 106 metres. The other two longest maximums travelled 100 and 105 metres.
Unfortunately though the left-handed batsman ended up on the losing side with none of his team-mates sticking around with him in the steep chase. Moreover, KXIP’s thin batting line-up made things worse as many were stunned to see Mujeeb Ur Rahman walk out to bat at seven.
Eventually, despite Nicholas Pooran scoring 77 runs, they got bundled out for just 132 runs in the 17th over to lose the game by a huge margin of 69 runs. Time is running out for the KL Rahul-led side now and they should soon step up to the task before getting knocked out of the tournament.
