IPL 2021: Gautam Gambhir picks four teams that will make to the playoffs
Gambhir additionally made a fifth team who can also qualify he feels.
Former Kolkata Knight Riders captain Gautam Gambhir has named his top picks who will stand a chance to qualify for the IPL 2021 playoffs. Gambhir didn’t make any surprising guesses as he named the teams who are currently placed in the top four on the points table before the start of the IPL 2021 second leg in the UAE.
Gambhir noted Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, third-ranked Royal Challengers Bangalore, and fourth-ranked Mumbai Indians are likely to qualify. Capitals have played eight matches, winning six and losing two. On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings have also won six while the Royal Challengers have won five matches and lost two.
Defending champions Mumbai on the other hand has won four and lost as many. In the first half, it was quite visible that these four teams were looking set to qualify for the playoffs. Gambhir also stated that the positions of these four teams can change.
“For me, the top four will be Delhi Capitals, Chennai Super Kings, Royal Challengers Bangalore, and Mumbai Indians. The positions might get changed with the matches, but those four are firm favorites,” said Gambhir on Star Sports. He further stated that KL Rahul-led Punjab Kings also have an outside chance to make it to.

“Punjab Kings have an outside chance. They are the only team who have got a realistic chance of making it into the playoffs,” added Gambhir. Punjab have played eight matches, winning only three of them and losing five games. Punjab actually has a chance but they would have to be very consistent to qualify for the next round.
Former West Indian captain Brian Lara who was also part of the show spoke briefly about Kolkata Knight Riders suggesting they have a talented team. However, he agreed with Gambhir and said Punjab has a chance. “Kolkata Knight Riders have a talented team but I will back Punjab Kings to make it into the play-offs. Punjab Kings have all the firepower to turn the tables around,” said Lara.
