Punjab Kings (PBKS) spent a massive INR 9.25 crores for acquiring the services of South African speedster Kagiso Rabada. PBKS franchise made Rabada their most expensive signing at the mega auction of IPL 2022. The new team Gujarat Lions were also interested in his services but it was PBKS who broke the bank for the fast bowler. Rabada is considered as one of the best fast bowlers going around in the world cricket right now and he’ll join the second team of his IPL career.

He was roped in by Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2017 auction for INR 5 crores. He missed the 2018 season due to a back injury but had been an integral part of their team since 2019. DC made it to the Play-Offs in 2019 and 2021 and with one reason being Rabada’s wickets in those campaigns. The fast bowler was the highest wicket-taker in the 2020 edition when DC qualified for their maiden finals.

Speaking about the mega auction 2022, the 26-years old quick had kept his base price INR 2 crore. His price tag rose by 4.625 times with a hike of 462.5% as PBKS acquired him for the above-mentioned staggering amount. In 50 IPL appearances for DC, the arm-arm fast bowler has taken 76 wickets with an average of 20.53 and a strike rate of 15.0. His economy rate read as 8.21 with best bowling figures of 4/21.

Kagiso Rabada became the most expensive South Africa player in the mega auction

Nicknamed ‘KG’ also became the most expensive Protea player in the auction. Faf du Plessis got roped by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for INR 7 crores after Rabada’s INR 9.25 crores. The third name in the list is of wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock who went to the new team Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for INR 6.75 crores. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) splashed INR 4.2 crores for former Mumbai Indians (MI) pacer Marco Jansen making him the fourth most expensive South African. The Under-19 World Cup sensation dubbed as ‘Baby AB’ Dewald Brevis will be a part of MI who snapped him for INR 3 crores in the IPL auction.

As each team is going to play 14 league matches and to add another three playoffs encounters including the final, Kagiso Rabada will bowl a maximum of 408 deliveries in the IPL 2022. A specialist in death-overs, KG has even bowled in a super over clash for DC against KKR in the 2019 IPL. Four overs are a certainty for the speedster as he will be bowling with the likes of Arshdeep Singh and Rahul Chahar in the 2022 edition.
