Jos Buttler smashed yet another breathtaking century this season while Yuzvendra Chahal took five-for including a hat-trick as Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in a thriller by seven runs in Match 30 of IPL 2022 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Buttler scored 103 runs off just 61 deliveries with nine fours and five sixes with Chahal picking up five wickets for 40 runs to win the fourth match for RR this campaign. Talking about how this entertaining contest panned out, Shreyas Iyer won the toss as KKR elected to field first. They made one change from the last match with Shivam Mavi replacing Aman Khan. RR made three changes as Trent Boult, Obed McCoy, and Karun Nair came into the side for James Neesham, Kuldeep Sen, and Rassie van der Dussen. Buttler, who is enjoying a rich vein of form this season, smashed his second ton this season and third overall. The orange cap holder got dismissed in the 17th over with skipper Sanju Samson and Shimron Hetmyer also slamming 38 and 26 runs respectively to post a massive total of 217/5 for RR. Pat Cummins leaked 50 runs for one wicket in his four-overs spell. Chasing a mammoth target of 218, Aaron Finch began the chase in a grand fashion as he tried to emulate Buttler’s innings. The Australian amassed 58 runs off just 28 deliveries with nine fours and two maximums before falling prey to Prasidh Krishna. KKR captain Shreyas kept going for his side as the right-handed batter smashed 85 runs off 51 balls. Wickets kept falling at regular intervals as the skipper didn’t get support from any other batter. Nitish Rana scored just 18 runs while power-hitter Andre Russell bagged a golden duck. Yuzvendra Chahal then spun his web to dismiss Shreyas as he picked up a hat-trick in the 17th over to turn the match on its head. Chahal became the fifth RR bowler to claim a hat-trick in the IPL. Umesh Yadav struck 21 runs with two sixes but RR kept their cool to hand KKR their third straight defeat. With this win, RR moved second on the table with eight points while KKR find themselves in the sixth position with six points. For his game-changing over and match-winning spell, Yuzvendra Chahal won the Player-of-the-Match award. Meanwhile, here are some of the important stats and numbers from Match 30 between Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League 2022: 150 – Sunil Narine appeared in his 150th match for KKR in T20 matches. 1 – Yuzvendra Chahal recorded his best bowling figures of 5/40 in the IPL. His previous best was 4/25 against Punjab Kings in 2016. 1 – RR registered the highest team total of 217/5 this IPL season. The previous best was by Chennai Super Kings 216/4 against Royal Challengers Bangalore. 21 – Chahal’s hat-trick was 21st in the IPL and he became the fifth RR bowler to claim the feat. 3 – Jos Buttler scored his third IPL century and is now joint-third with AB de Villiers for most tons (3) by an overseas batter. Chris Gayle has six while David Warner and Shane Watson have four centuries each. 1 – RR has now smashed the most sixes (63) this campaign. Punjab Kings (PBKS) is in the second spot for hitting 58 maximums. 1 – Buttler has now slammed most tons (3) for RR in the IPL. Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, and Sanju Samson have all scored two hundred each. 2 – Shreyas Iyer and Aaron Finch shared this campaign’s second-highest 2nd wicket partnership of 107 runs. Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli scored 118 runs against PBKS. 1022 – Devdutt Padikkal reached the milestone of 1000 IPL runs. He completed the feat in 35 innings and is now joint-third with Rishabh Pant for fastest to 1000 runs by an Indian. 4 – Buttler became the fourth batter to slam a century at the Brabourne Stadium in the IPL. The other three batters are Yusuf Pathan in 2010, Shane Watson in 2015, and KL Rahul in this edition itself. 4 – Buttler is now joint-fourth with De Villiers, Samson, and Rahul for smashing three centuries in the IPL. 109 – Venkatesh Iyer has amassed just 109 runs in seven innings at an average of 18.16 this IPL campaign. 1 – First instance in the history of IPL where a century and a five-wicket haul were recorded in the same match. 5 – KKR has played five matches at the Brabourne Stadium and lost all five of them in the IPL. 350 – Aaron Finch appeared in his 350th T20 match. 19.25 – Nitish Rana has scored 154 runs in nine innings at an average of just 19.25 against RR. 3 – Sunil Narine’s last three run-out dismissals in the league have all come against RR. 2 – Buttler is also now joint-second with four other batters for scoring two hundreds in a single IPL season.
