IPL 2022: Updated Points Table, Orange and Purple Cap lists after RR vs DC encounter

Clinical Delhi Capitals (DC) were too good for the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in their group stage encounter of the 2022 Indian Premier League (IPL) played at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on May 11 (Wednesday). Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh was adjudged the Player of the Match for his all-round performance with both bat and ball.

Earlier in the contest, DC skipper Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to have a field first. The Capitals bowlers applied the pressure from the word go as they soon scalped the prized wicket of the Orange Cap holder Jos Buttler. The other opener Yashasvi Jaiswal could not get going as well. It was then veteran player Ravichandran Ashwin and Devdutt Padikkal who stitched an excellent partnership to keep RR in the match.

However, once Ashwin and Padikkal got out, it was just a one-team show. For DC, pacer Chetan Sakariya, Anrich Nortje, and Marsh scalped two wickets each as the Royals gave a target of 161 to the Capitals side.

Chasing 161, DC suffered an early jolt

Chasing a target of 161, DC suffered an early blow with opener Srikar Bharat getting out without troubling the scorers. However, the Australian duo of David Warner and Marsh never looked troubled on the crease as they kept milking the ball for singles and doubles and scoring odd boundaries in between.

A late flourish from both the batters ensured that the Royals from Rajasthan could not make a comeback in the game. Marsh scored an excellent 89 while his countryman Warner remained unbeaten on 52. To note, the finishing touches were applied by skipper Rishabh Pant as he smoked two huge sixes in his four balls.

After winning tonight’s encounter, DC have climbed to the fifth spot in the points table. Meanwhile, RR retain their third position in the points table. Gujarat Titans (First), Lucknow Super Giants (Second), and Royal Challengers Bangalore (Fourth) complete the top four teams in the points table.
