There is more to the Indian Premier League than just cricket. The off the field drama also has a major impact on the standing of the cash-rich tournament. The franchises try to acquire several sponsors to maintain a positive financial outlook. The management has to bear several expenses and payments for hosting matches in the home ground is one of them.

Police and fire department services are required on the field to ensure the safety of the players and spectators. The home team has to bear such expenses and make payments to the concerned department. Teams like Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders pay a bigger amount due to the location of the stadium while Kings XI Punjab needs to shell out a lesser sum of money.

CSR responsibilities

“The administration at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai charges around Rs 25 lakh from the franchise while the team pays around Rs 12.5 lakh for playing a match at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. We are expecting to charge over Rs 15 lakh as a combined ‘bill’ of the administration and police,” collector Nishant Warwade told TOI. The administration studied the models of various cities to come up with the final amount to be charged from Kings XI Punjab.

The Indore Municipal Corporation is preparing the bill of services and the district administration has urged the management to make the payment on time. The city police charged Rs 9 lakh/match played at Holkar ground and the corporation provided all possible services required for the smooth conduct of the match.

Warwade also added that as per the discussion held with the management of Kings XI Punjab, an increase of 10 percent/year will be there on the ‘bills’ charged from the franchise. The team is also expected to establish a cricket academy in the city and also carry out various work under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to benefit the needy people.

The Kings XI Punjab are currently placed third on the points table and are just a few wins away from sealing a playoff berth.
