Rohit Sharma | Player of the Match:
I’ve only notched four fifties so far; I’d love to add more. Today was a brilliant team effort, and I fully appreciate the weight of this Eliminator—win it and you move on. I’m proud of how the unit pulled together. When I bat, I switch everything else off and focus solely on doing my job for the team. I got a bit of luck today with a couple of dropped catches, and I’m grateful I made it count by putting us in a strong position. With dew looming, it was always going to be tricky, but our bowlers stood tall. I’ve played those shots before and found fielders—sometimes fortune favours you, and today was one of those days. But you still have to back your game, keep the momentum and tempo. It was also a fine effort with the ball. I’ve watched Jonny from afar for years; we knew his calibre and experience in this format, and he looked like a seasoned pro on his debut. We got off to a great start and made it pay.
Hardik Pandya:
At one stage the game was deadlocked, but I felt the surface came right in the second innings—it started to settle nicely, and GT found their groove. We knew we had to stay composed and trust our lads. Jonny’s debut knock was special for this franchise—he stepped in and delivered under pressure. Rohit, once he got in, was a treat to watch. Gleeson’s swing, Jassi’s consistency, Ashwani’s control—everyone chipped in and held their nerve. Sure, I’d have loved a couple more big hits; those fine margins matter. Our aim was to be positive with the bat, and we succeeded. As for Bumrah, it’s simple: when the game drifts, you bring him on. Having him is a luxury—like Mumbai real estate, he’s that priceless. Keeping an eye on the board, I wanted us to sneak a few extra runs at the death, knowing I had the perfect bowlers to close it out. Jassi’s over in the 18th was crucial in stretching our lead. Recovery is vital—looking forward to the next game.
Shubman Gill:
That was a fantastic contest—we were right in it until the very end. The last three or four overs didn’t go our way, and dropping three sitters really hurt; it put extra pressure on our bowlers. Our simple message to Sai and Washington was: back your instincts and play your natural game, with the shared goal of winning. The dew did make batting easier late on, but there are plenty of positives to take. Though the last couple of matches slipped away, credit to everyone—especially Sai, who’s been outstanding all season. On this track, 210 would’ve been a par score.
