After the likes of Jos Buttler and Stuart Broad frustrated India and helped England to a substantial score of 332 in the first innings, the pacers ensured that the visitors were kept on the mat and weren’t allowed to make a comeback in the match. The Indian batsmen yet another time in the series flattered to deceive. A number of them got their eyes in but couldn’t carry on.

The likes of Virat Kohli, Cheteshwar Pujara, KL Rahul looked determined but were unable to convert. Ahead of the third day’s play, India had a mountain to climb with a trail of 158 runs and four wickets in hand. Hanuma Vihari and Ravindra Jadeja were the overnight batsmen and were in requisite of putting forth their best foot forward in order to bail Virat’s men out of jail.

What a good hour that has been for India

However, both haven’t looked flustered by any stretch of the imagination and expertly staved off the English attack on the third day’s morning in the fifth Test at Kennington Oval in London. In the meantime, Michael Vaughan, the former Indian cricketer was highly impressed with India’s resilient approach after being put under the pump.

“What a good hour that has been for India. They had a bit of fortune but England bowled a little too wide for me. Full credit to India. They’ve hung in there with great conviction,” Vaughan was quoted as saying in BBC’s Test Match Special.

India resumed the day with the score at 174/6 and has added quite a few runs, most importantly without losing a wicket. Meanwhile, Vihari, who has been in stupendous form in India’s domestic circuit, scored his maiden half-century. The visiting team still has a fair amount of work to do in order to overhaul England’s score and the task isn’t expected to be a cakewalk by any means.
