Mohammad Amir leads Essex to victory with a 10-wicket match haul

Essex chased down the 33-run target in 10 overs but lost 2 wickets in the process.

Mohammad Amir bagged his 2nd five-wicket haul in the county championship match against Yorkshire to power his team Essex to an 8-wicket win at the Scarborough. Amir recorded figures of 5/18 in the first innings to bowl out the home side to 113 runs while he bagged 5/54 in the 2nd innings as Yorkshire were bundled out for 150 after conceding 118-run first-innings lead.

Resuming the day on 188/8, Essex were bowled out for 231 with Ryan Ten Doeschate (88) getting out as the last man. He shared a 52-run stand for the 9th wicket with Amir, who made a decent hand with the bat as well by scoring 22. Amir’s destruction with the ball in the 2nd innings began from the 2nd ball he bowled as Alex Lees was caught behind for a duck.

He trapped Tom Kohler-Cadmore for 13 runs and sent back Tim Bresnan and Adil Rashid for ducks to leave Yorkshire at 37/6. Amir waited a bit long for his 5th wicket as Jack Leaning, with a 70-run knock helped his side to avoid an inning loss. Benjamin Coad turned out to be Amir’s 5th wicket when he edged to Simon Harmer in slips after scoring 28. Essex chased down the 33-run target in 10 overs but lost 2 wickets in the process.

10/72 – Mohammad Amir’s match figures of 10/72 are the best in his first-class career. This is only the 2nd time he has ever taken 10 wickets in FC game. Amir had match figures of 10/97 for National Bank of Pakistan against Lahore Shalimar way back in 2009.
