The Pakistan Test squad for their upcoming tour of England and Ireland have recently been announced. The squad consists of a bunch of youngsters who haven’t yet made their debut along with some experienced players. However, they would be in for a stern challenge without the likes of Misbah-ul-Haq and Younis Khan, how have hung their boots last year from international cricket.

Meanwhile, the tour starts with a one-off Test against Ireland at Dublin which will be followed by a two-Test affair against England. Several cricketers have criticized the selection procedures. Fawad Alam, who has been in prime form in the domestic circuit has been left out and the decision has been criticized by current and former cricketers as well.

“No experience of Test cricket”- Mohammad Asif

Recently, Mohammad Asif, who was involved in the infamous spot-fixing scandal back in 2010, also spoke about the selection. “Several members of the touring side have no experience of Test cricket and yet they have been selected for the all-important tour of UK and Ireland, for reasons best known to the selectors,” Asif was quoted as saying by the reporters in a local cricket ground in Lahore.

Fitness and form should be major criteria for cricketers in order to get selected in the national squad. However, Mohammad Asif feels that they are not being implemented while selecting the national squad. “But, unfortunately, these criteria were not considered in the selection of some players this time” the tainted fast-bowler added.

He also mentioned the significance of Sarfraz Ahmed’s role in motivating the team to soar above expectations. Nevertheless, his own performance hasn’t been top notch and has struggled to find a rhythm. How can he [Sarfraz] then motivate other players if his own performance is below par” a concerned Asif remarked.
