Most Hundred run partnerships by a pair in T20Is: T20Is are the flavor of the season. With the World T20 in 2016 not far away, teams are looking to set things right and test out permutations and combinations. It is no secret that one or two big partnerships can change the whole complexion in the shortest format. And when two batsmen put the pedal on the accelerator, it is pretty difficult to stop them. With short boundaries and flat decks, the task gets even humongous for the bowlers. A huge partnership especially if it’s a century one, can decimate the opposition’s morale. Today we look at Most Hundred partnerships by a pair in T20Is (Top 9): 9. Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene – 2, 2007-2014 Mahela Jayawardene. (Photo Source: Getty Images) On number nine is a duo who didn’t have paramount success in T20 internationals but were still effective. Jayawardene and Sangakkara averaged 41.1 in the 22 innings they played together. The 822 runs included the highest stand of 166, which is tremendous by T20 standards. 8. Martin Guptill and Brendon McCullum – 2, 2009-2015 (© Getty Images) The flamboyant New Zealand duo also have 2-century partnerships but sit at number 8 because of a better average. Having scored 831 runs with 4 half-century stands, they tormented most bowling attacks around the world. Guptill took his time to settle in while McCullum went hammer and tongs right from the outset. 7. Alex Hales and Michael Lumb – 2, 2012-2014 (Photo Source: Getty Images) Lumb and Hales are at number seven having taken fewer innings for the two-century stands – 18. Considering they played only three years together it is a commendable achievement. Hales was the number one T20I batsman for quite some time and performed well in 2012 World T20. Lumb provided the left-right combo which worked well for England. 6. Loots Bosman and Graeme Smith – 2, 2006-2010 (© Getty Images) The South African duo took just 12 innings 650 runs at a fantastic average of over 59. Smith is a particularly surprising entry since he wasn’t one went on the attack right away. Bosman, now only a domestic player was a master of taking the bowling to the task. Together they also managed a fantastic 170 run, stand, their highest in international T20s. 5. Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan – 2, 2012-2014 Alex Hales and Eoin Morgan, 152 runs. (© Getty Images) The explosive England opener and the current limited over skipper took just 9 innings in which they managed 2-century partnerships. They averaged more than 46 for the 374 runs. Hales got an able ally in Morgan who would first take his time and then shift gears as the innings progressed. Alex Hales also made a fabulous century against Sri Lanka in the 2012 World T20 as England chased 190. 4. Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden – 2, 2005-2007 (Photo Source: Getty Images) The southpaws also took nine innings but scored more runs with a better average and thus sit at number 4 in the list. They were a deadly pair at their prime and demolished the best of attacks in a matter of few overs. Though T20 cricket came into prominence at the fag-end of their career, Gilli and Hayden still left their mark on it. 3. David Obuya and Steve Tikolo – 2, 2007-2010 (© Getty Images and ICC) The Kenyan pair got chances mostly in intercontinental cups or the qualifying tournaments for the ICC World T20s. What is amazing is, they played only 4 innings together, the least by any pair in the list and still managed to get 2-century stands in those matches. The average of 120 is reflective of their immense batting prowess. 2. David Warner and Shane Watson – 3, 2009-2015 (© Getty Images) Probably the best T20 pair in international cricket till date, Watto and Warner were a nightmare for bowlers when on song. In the 2012 World T20, they won Australia most of the matches on their own. Watson is famous for those huge sixes and murdering the spinners while Warner doesn’t like to play a secondary role and goes on the offensive pretty early as well. They have played 36 innings together and managed 1150 which is the most in international cricket. 1. Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma – 3, 2010-2015 (Photo Source: BCCI) Two of India’s biggest superstars of limited overs cricket Rohit and Virat occupy the numero uno spot by virtue of taking just 9 innings to put up 3-century stands and averaging 52 in the process. The third-century stand came in the first T20I against the Proteas at Cuttack. While Rohit scored a hundred, Virat became the fastest to score 1000 runs in international T20s.
