The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has been a witness to three jaw-dropping seasons. The inaugural edition in 2016 was staged entirely in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the reason that players from other nations were reluctant to travel to the nation owing to security concerns. However, in the next season, the final of the T20 tournament took place at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore.

In the erstwhile edition, as many as three encounters were staged in Pakistan all of which were played after the round robin stage. The buzz surrounding the fourth edition is well and truly on an escalation. Ehsan Mani, the newly appointed chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) made an announcement that Pakistan will host eight matches with UAE being the co-host.

Some massive buys this season

In the meantime, the drafts for the forthcoming edition took place yesterday in Islamabad. More than 650 cricketers from around the globe were up for grabs. Each franchise was allowed to have three platinum, three diamond, three gold, five silver, two emerging and four supplementary picks. Lahore Qalandars had the first pick and they opted for the enigmatic AB de Villiers.

The Proteas was picked in the Platinum Category. Windies all-rounder Carlos Brathwaite went in the Diamond Category. Nepal leg-spinning sensation Sandeep Lamichhane was bagged in the Gold category. Defending champions Islamabad United opted for experienced English batsman Ian Bell in the Diamond category with Samit Patel and Phil Salt in the Gold category.

The ‘Sixth Team’, previously known as the ‘Multan Sultans’ roped in some prominent names including the likes of Steve Smith, the Australian cricketer, and retired Pakistani all-rounder Shahid Afridi. Quetta Gladiators, last year’s runners-up went for former Windies player Dwayne Bravo in the Platinum category while leg-spinner Fawad Ahmed was picked from the Gold category.
