Reports: Jay Shah trying to convince Sachin Tendulkar to take up a role in Indian cricket

There have been recent reports of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah approaching Sachin Tendulkar to take up some role in the Indian cricket in the near future. The master blaster has been playing the role of a mentor for the Mumbai Indians in IPL while is yet to take up a role in the development of Indian cricket. Sachin played international cricket  for more than two decades and still has a plethora of records to his name.

The 48-year-old made his Test debut at just 16 and dominated world cricket since then. With more than 34,000 runs in international cricket, he is one of the celebrated cricketers around the world. It will be a big boost to the development of Indian cricket if he does take up any role like the recent appointments of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman.

According to a report in Times of India, Shah has been making an honest effort to get Sachin into some role in Indian cricket. Shah had earlier convinced Dravid who wasn’t willing to take up the head coach role for India at first, and later he did agree to take up the top job. Laxman was also convinced to take up the head coach role at NCA that has been vital in producing some excellent results over the years.

“He’s (Shah) been off the media radar but absolutely clear about what is the right thing to do. Little things that matter. For instance, appointing Rahul Dravid as head coach, ensuring someone of the stature of VVS Laxman gets associated with the National Cricket Academy (NCA). We’re told he’s now trying to convince Sachin Tendulkar to get into some role in the near future,” said BCCI members in the know.

Now it remains to be seen if Jay Shah does eventually manage to convince Sachin Tendulkar. If he does that, the master will have to give up his mentoring role for the Mumbai Indians to avoid conflict of interest.
