Mumbai Indians wicketkeeper-batsman Quinton de Kock has lavished praise on his former Delhi Capitals teammate Rishabh Pant. De Kock’s comments came two days after Pant demolished Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium. The youngster left everyone gasping for breath with his scarcely-believable power-hitting. Pant’s knock eventually made the difference in the game as the Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai by 37 runs in the high-scoring affair.

Pant had stared his innings on a slower note, scoring just 1 off the first five balls he had faced. But it wasn’t a pointer to how his innings would unfold. Delhi were scoring at less than 9 runs per over when Pant had walked out to bat in the 13th over. And by the time, he walked off after the end of the innings, Delhi’s run rate had surged to 10.65. Pant had smacked an unbeaten 78 off just 27 balls to completely destroy the three-time IPL champions.

Rishabh Pant did not spare anyone including Jasprit Bumrah who is considered the best death bowler in the world. The southpaw smashed 7 fours and as many sixes during his whirlwind knock, helping Delhi post a daunting total of 213 for 6 – their highest total against the Mumbai Indians. In reply, the home team was all out for 176 as Delhi started their season with a comprehensive win.

And while Pant’s power-hitting had surprised the majority, De Kock, who shared the dressing room with him in 2016 IPL, was not one of them. Speaking ahead of Mumbai’s second game of the season, the Proteas star claimed that Pant has a lot of power in his shots while also saying that he could be a good investment for India.

“I’ve played with Rishabh before. I’ve seen him grow very quickly. He has a lot of power in his shots. He is a very strong boy. I think he’s going to be a good investment for India,” De Kock said while speaking to the reporters.

Pant – the next big thing

Before De Kock, his Mumbai Indians’ teammate Yuvraj Singh had also lavished praise on Rishabh Pant, calling him the next big thing for Indian cricket. “I can’t really say about (World Cup) selection but Rishabh was outstanding today,” Yuvraj had told the reporters at the post-match media conference on Sunday.
