Rohit Sharma, who is captaining the Indian team in the T20I series against Windies, has been involved in a number of run-outs, especially with Virat Kohli at the non-striker’s end. Hence, one can comprehend his vulnerability while batting in the middle. However, yesterday, during the second T20I in Lucknow, the 31-year old showed maturity, which also saved Rishabh Pant.

The incident occurred in the second ball of the 14th over. Right-arm Fast bowler Oshane Thomas churned out a full-length delivery and Rohit opened the bat’s face to dab the ball to Fabian Allen, the point fielder. Moreover, he set off for a run as well. But on realising that he wasn’t going to complete the run, he stopped and also asked Pant to make his way back.

Rohit shows calmness in the middle

Allen sensed a chance of a dismissal and threw the leather at the bowler’s end to dismiss Pant. Nevertheless, the ball missed the stumps and thereafter it eluded the fielder inside the circle to finally be collected by Kieron Pollard, who made a diving stop in the deep. In the meantime, Allen could’ve been a tad cleverer and had the chance of getting Rohit out.

At the time of his throw, Rohit was way out his crease and a throw at his end would’ve seen him going back to the pavilion. After the lifeline, Pant couldn’t capitalise on it and was later dismissed by left-arm spinner Khary Pierre, who was otherwise shambolic having conceded 49 runs in his quota of four overs. Rohit undoubtedly made the Caribbean team pay big time.

At that point in time, Rohit was on 76 runs from 46 balls. In the next 15 balls, the Nagpur-born cricketer notched 35 runs from 15 balls to propel India’s score to 195. He also became India’s leading run-scorer in T20Is, surpassing Kohli. He now has the chance of becoming the top run-getter in T20Is, getting past New Zealand left-handed batsman Martin Guptill.
