It seems commentator and former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar has developed a great connection with controversies over the years. Time and again, he made bold statements about players, and it eventually resulted in his sacking from the commentary panel of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. His eviction from the Indian cricket board came this year in March, and due to the same, he couldn’t find a place even in the IPL commentary panel too.

Last year, he invited controversy for calling Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja ‘bit and pieces’ cricketer. He is back to his typical sense again and facing a lot of criticism from fans for calling Piyush Chawla and Ambati Rayudu ‘low profile cricketers’. Both of them impressed in Chennai’s amazing win over arch-rivals Mumbai Indians in the season opener.

Chawla and Rayudu flaunt class in the season opener

Plying trade for the first time for Kings’, Chawla remained too economical by conceding just 21 runs in four overs. The spinner dismissed the Mumbai skipper in the power play to get his team going easily ahead. On the other hand, Rayudu played a swashbuckling knock of 71 runs on 48 balls to give the team a robust base. He walked on the field when the Yellow Army was struggling on 6 for 2 and then sealed the night on his name.

He stitched a 115-run partnership with Faf du Plessis to break the back of Mumbai’s bowling squad completely. Faf, who remained unbeaten on 58, chased down the things in style with four balls to spare. After the game wrapped up, Manjrekar did praise the cricketers but invited criticism by commenting in his typical style.

He wrote on his Twitter- “So happy for two pretty low profile cricketers Piyush Chawla and Ambati Rayudu. Chawla was sensational with the ball. Bowled the 5th & 16th over too. Rayudu..well…one of the best IPL innings from him based on the quality of shots played! Well done CSK!”

Well, his ‘low profile cricketers’ term didn’t go well with the fans, and they immediately took to Twitter to thrash the commentator. Some reminded him of Chawla and Rayudu’s contributions to the cricket, some even displayed sarcastic remarks over Manjrekar’s records.
