He shouldered a major responsibility in the batting order when Virat Kohli was not around in the Asia Cup and slammed two centuries to help India win the tournament for a record seventh time. But dashing opener Shikhar Dhawan has been modest enough to express his respect for the regular captain for his tireless run with the bat. The 32-year-old applauded his captain’s incredible “willpower” in an interview.

That Kohli has an insatiable hunger for scoring runs became evident once again in the ongoing ODI series against the Windies as he slammed three consecutive centuries in the first three games. In the middle of his heroics, the 29-year-old also eclipsed his legendary compatriot Sachin Tendulkar to reach the 10,000 runs club in the 50-over format as the quickest batsman. The 29-year-old currently has 38 ODI and 62 international hundreds and is well on his course to dwarf Mount Tendulkar some day.

“Hats off to Virat, the kind of focus, determination and willpower he has is unbelievable. I pray to God that he reaches more heights in his career,” the stylish left-hand batsman, who is fondly called “Gabbar”, told IndiaTV. The occasion was the launch of his home decor brand ‘DaOne’ in Mumbai. ‘DaOne’ is Dhawan’s maiden entrepreneurial venture and he has wife Aesha as his partner in this.

Dhawan thanks teammates for support for ‘DaOne’

“It is very close to my heart, a lot of hard work has been done on it not by me alone but also by Aesha. Aesha has an equal share in the brand as mine. It’s a home decor business on the online medium. I am hoping to work hard on this too and make it as successful,” Dhawan said while thanking his Team India mates, including Kohli, for their support.

The left-hander, who was adjudged the man of the series in Asia Cup for his two startling centuries, also spoke about his blazing opening partnership with Rohit Sharma, saying it’s important to set up a base for the team to build upon.

Dhawan, however, has looked out of sorts in the ongoing series against the Windies though, scoring just 106 runs in four games even though the Indian batters have already picked up six tons so far.
