Chennai Super Kings painted the Narendra Modi Stadium yellow as they beat the defending champions Gujarat Titans by five wickets on Tuesday, May 30 to clinch their fifth IPL title. The final was shifted to the reserve day after incessant rain didn’t allow the match to take place on the scheduled date on Sunday. The rain once again tried to spoil the show on the reserve day, however, thanks to the hard work of the ground staff, the fans got to see action-packed 35 overs during the game.

Following their thrilling win, CSK shared a video of the team’s celebration in their hotel. The video captures the journey of the ‘Men in Yellow’ from the stadium to their hotel where they could be seen leaving the stadium amid chants of ‘Dhoni-Dhoni’ from the fans. At the hotel, the team got a rousing reception as they entered dancing to the beats of ‘Dhol’.

The entire CSK squad looked in a jolly mood as seamer Matheesha Pathirana was spotted carrying the coveted IPL trophy. At the end of the video, captain MS Dhoni was seen cutting a special five tier cake which captured the journey of Chennai from their first IPL trophy in 2010 to their fifth in 2023.

CSK are now level with MI with most IPL titles

Coming back to the match, CSK captain Dhoni won the toss on the big day and invited GT to bat first in their home ground. However, the decision backfired as Gujarat posted a massive score of 214/4 courtesy of a breathtaking knock from Sai Sudharsan (96 off 47).

In reply, CSK chased down the revised target (171 in 15 overs) on the last ball courtesy of Ravindra Jadeja’s heroics (15* off 6). The all-rounder hit a six and a four with ten required off the last two balls to seal a thrilling win for his side. Following their victory, CSK are now level with the Mumbai Indians in terms of most IPL trophies won (five).
