In a thrilling encounter at Kingstown, Afghanistan emerged victorious against Australia by 21 runs in the 48th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup. 

After being put into bat, Afghanistan posted a competitive total of 148/6 in their allotted 20 overs. Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a crucial 60 runs off 49 balls, including four boundaries and four sixes. He was well supported by Ibrahim Zadran, who made 51 off 48 deliveries. The Australian bowlers had a mixed day, with Pat Cummins being the pick of the bowlers, claiming three wickets for 28 runs in his four overs. Adam Zampa also contributed with two wickets for 28 runs.

In response, Australia struggled from the outset. Naveen-ul-Haq made an immediate impact, dismissing Travis Head for a duck in the very first over. Despite a valiant effort from Glenn Maxwell, who scored 59 off 41 balls, the Australian batting line-up crumbled. Gulbadin Naib was the star with the ball, claiming an impressive four wickets for just 20 runs in his four-over spell. Naveen-ul-Haq also shone, taking three wickets for 20 runs AS  Australia were eventually bowled out for 127 in 19.2 overs, falling short by 21 runs in a historic loss.

Gulbadin Naib was rightly named the Player of the Match for his outstanding bowling performance. His figures of 4/20 were instrumental in securing the win for Afghanistan. This victory was a significant one for Afghanistan, showcasing their growing prowess in T20 cricket and their ability to compete against top-tier teams like Australia. The result has certainly added more excitement to the Super Eights stage of the T20 World Cup.
