It is a sad day for Indian Test cricket fans as Virat Kohli has retired from the prestigious format after a 14-year decorated career. It has been a career full of great moments for the two-time world champion, who has broken many records in the format with some incredible knocks.

There is no doubt that Kohli has achieved a lot in red-ball cricket, which many other batters strive for, whether it is scoring the most double centuries for an Indian batter in the format or scoring the most centuries for an Indian Test skipper as well.

However, there is one milestone Kohli could not conquer in the five-day format, which was brought up in an interview which was conducted 11 years back in 2013, where the Delhi batter had mentioned that he would like to complete 10,000 runs in Test cricket. The old interview has now resurfaced, shedding light on the one landmark that the former India Test skipper could not achieve.

“I don’t keep track of records at all. When I score a century in a match, I find out afterwards that it was the quickest to 10 centuries or something like that. So I only get to know about it after the match. Before the match, my focus is not on things like, ‘I have 5 innings left, and if I score 3 more centuries, I’ll set a record.’ I don’t think that way. My aim is to score 10,000 runs in Test cricket, and that’s something I really want to achieve,” Virat said during an interview with Aaj Tak.

His highest score came in 2019 against South Africa in Pune, where he scored 254* off 336 deliveries. His innings consisted of 33 boundaries and two maximums. India went on to win the game by an innings and 137 runs.
