Dubai Capitals skipper, Rovman Powell, played out a ‘Dhoni-esque’ helicopter shot against the MI Emirates counterpart, Kieron Pollard, during the International League T20 (ILT20) clash on January 22. Powell carved out a blistering knock of 97 runs off just 41 balls, which included 10 maximums and four boundaries helping the side attain a mammoth total of 222 runs in their 20 overs.

During the contest, as the Caribbean explosive hitter seemed to be in his zone, he swiftly targeted compatriot and skipper of the Emirates franchise – Kieron Pollard. In the 20th over of the contest, Powell fired all cylinders as he dispatched one onto the stands with the infamous ‘helicopter shot’ followed by a short pitch delivery which also sailed over the boundary for a maximum.

Tearing into the rival bowling unit, Dubai had massive grip with a terrific head start into the contest. The onus was on the Dubai bowlers to defend the massive total in the runs chase during the second innings.

In response to the mammoth total, MI Emirates required a similar sort of an innings with someone from the unit playing a magical knock. However, the Emirates side lost wickets early which put them under pressure during the chase.

In came skipper, Pollard, who did not waste much time and quickly hit the ground running with the bat. Pollard smacked 86 off mere 38 deliveries and almost executed a rescue job to get the derailed side back into the contest.

Despite the quick knock, the efforts went in vain as the side lost the contest, falling just short of the finishing line by 16 runs as the side concluded the chase with 206/5.

Following the win against MI Emirates, Dubai ended their three-match losing streak and are presently in the fifth spot of the standings with four points. As the business end of the competition is on the horizon, Dubai will need to up the ante and push themselves in order to make a spot in the last four of the event.
