Sourav Ganguly is the legend of Indian cricket without a doubt. Having changed the narrative of captaincy for the Indian cricket team, Ganguly now enjoys a life of administration for the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). While his services in various committes take up a lot of his time, Ganguly almost always finds time to enjoy a good football match. With the FIFA World Cup currently dominating television screens across the country, even Ganguly seemingly is in the frenzy.

The current FIFA World Cup is seemingly becoming one of the most exciting one of the lot. It would seem as though viewers have already seen a few classic matches, something that will stand the test of time. In addition, as has been the case with the qualifiers, one thing is quite clear that this tournament has certainly been flung wide open.

Upsets have been the narrative in the current context, something that has made the World Cup all the more exciting. With Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo already ousted and Spain being knocked out by hosts Russia via a penalty shootout, it would seem to be anybody’s tournament. And Sourav Ganguly is certainly one of those keenly watching the drama unfolding in Russia as well.

However, with both Messi and Ronaldo gone, the probablilty of a ‘GOAT’ might not turn out to be this time around. However, in Ganguly’s book, there is and always has been the Greatest – former Argentina World Cup winner and charismatic captain Diego Maradonna. The latter is certainly one of the greatest footballers ever to have played the beautiful game.

A follow up tweet from Ganguly shed light on the Uruguay encounter as they overwhelmed a hapless Portugal side to quailfy for the Quarterfinal.

Here is the tweet

Cannot take his eyes off the World Cup
