Wiaan Mulder got a callback to the South Africa team for the fifth and final ODI against Pakistan at Newlands, on January 30, Wednesday. The last ODI game Mulder played for the Proteas was back in September last year against Zimbabwe, after which he was ruled out of the series due to an ankle injury.

Ever since his debut against Bangladesh in October 2017, Mulder has accrued 57 runs and 7 wickets in seven matches/innings. The 20-year-old has a total score of 335 runs at an average of 22.23 and 22 wickets under his belt in List A matches. He has been in some good form for his domestic team, the Lions franchise. He is expected to add some weight in the troublesome seventh spot which has been a spot of bother for the Proteas for a while now.

The South Africa ODI squad had also replaced Duanne Olivier, Dane Peterson and Heinrich Klaasen after the second match in Durban, and picked Beuran Hendricks, Dale Steyn and Quinton de Kock in their place.

An exciting finish in the offing

The series is tied at 2-2 currently, leaving it to the last and final ODI to be the decision-making game in the five-match series. The fourth game at Wanderers was won by the visitors by 8 wickets after South Africa put up a meagre target of 164 in front of the Pakistan batting. Hashim Amla and Faf du Plessis put up the only mention-worthy scores for South Africa, adding 59 and 57 runs respectively to the total. It took the Pakistan top order only 31.3 overs and the fall of two wickets to reach the target.

Pakistan also won the opening match of the series in Port Elizabeth by 5 wickets, before Proteas bounced back and sealed the second one in Durban by the same margin. The third one was clinched by the South Africans as well, in a rain-affected game in Centurion.
