With the World Cup in England and Wales knocking on the doors, South African speedster Dale Steyn is steadfastly confirming his place in the national squad. He played the three-match Test series against Pakistan after which he was rested for the first two ODIs against Sarfaraz Ahmed and Co. Fast bowler Duanne Olivier, who wielded magic in the Test series, got to make his ODI debut.

Nevertheless, the Proteas brought him back for the third ODI at the SuperSport Park in Centurion. Subsequently, Olivier had to make way for the experienced campaigner. In the meantime, Steyn’s mother wished her son luck for the match. Surprisingly, the wish came after the conclusion of the encounter. Steyn had to remind his mother that the match got over yesterday.

A decent game for Dale Steyn

As far as the third ODI was concerned, Steyn had a reasonable outing with the leather in hand. He picked up the crucial wicket of Babar Azam, who scored a promising 69 from 72 balls with seven fours and a six. Steyn trapped him plumb in front to send him packing. Thereafter, he got rid of the dangerous Hasan Ali in the death overs. Ali was the one who frustrated the Proteas in the second ODI at the Kingsmead.

Dale eventually finished with an impressive spell of 10-0-43-2. Even as Pakistan racked up 317 runs, Steyn was hard to get away. In fact, he was South Africa’s most economical bowler in the encounter, which the hosts won by 13 runs courtesy of the Duckworth Lewis Stern (DLS) Method.

The Proteas lost the opening ODI at St George’s Park in Port Elizabeth by five wickets after which they managed to roll the visiting over by the same margin at the Kingsmead in Durban. With a lead of 2-1, Faf du Plessis’ men would be keen to wrap up the series in the third match in Johannesburg on January 27.
