Stats: Batsmen with most ducks in T20 cricket
Umar Akmal is one of the most talented batsmen Pakistan has produced when it comes to limited-overs cricket. But there are some unpleasant things attached to Akmal and he has added another unwanted record. The 26-year-old was dismissed for a duck against Peshawar Zalmi’s last night and with that, he broke a long lasting record of Herschelle Gibbs.
He surpassed the retired South African with 24 ducks and claimed the top spot for most ducks in T20 cricket. Umar was on 22 ducks just three days ago before getting dismissed for a duck twice in three days. Though many fans back him to find the form he has lost, there are some of the fans who have termed him has “overrated”.
Umar Akmal broke this record in 204 innings while Gibbs played only 167. There are others who feature in this list as well. The veteran Sri Lankan, Tillakaratne Dilshan also has 23 ducks to his name in the 217 innings he played. Even the West Indian Dwayne Smith features with the same number of ducks as Dilshan.
There are a few Indians who make it to the list as well. Opener Gautam Gambhir tops the list as far as Indians are concerned with 18 ducks in 213 innings while Harbhajan Singh has the 17 to his name. All these batsmen have played over 100 innings each except Jeetan Patel of New Zealand, who has batted in 68 innings and still managed 17 ducks; some record that.
