Stats: Virat Kohli registers yet another record

Virat Kohli has been in the middle of a purple patch for the last couple of seasons. He has dominated bowlers around the world and has scored heavily in all formats of the game. His credentials as captain were vindicated as he recently led India to the No. 1 Test ranking.

After picking up an injury in the Border-Gavaskar series, Kohli was out of action for 4 weeks. He sat out for the first three games in the IPL but made a remarkable comeback in RCB’s fourth game, which was his first in the season, scoring a half-century.

His 47-ball 62 entertained many, though it couldn’t force an RCB win, and it didn’t look like that he was out of action for almost a month. By virtue of his half-century, Kohli created a new world record which is oblivious to many. His 62 against Mumbai Indians was his 15th half-century at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is his home ground for RCB the team he has played for since 2008.

This is the most number of fifties registered at a single ground ever. Former England opener Michael Carberry shares the record with Kohli as he too has 15 half-centuries at Southampton.

Kohli’s stocks in T20 cricket have grown rapidly in the past couple of years. The IPL 2016 was the pinnacle of his T20 career as he went on to register 4 centuries in a single season.

All of his 15 fifties at the Chinnaswamy have come for RCB, though he has also played 3 T20 internationals here. 13 out of the 15 fifties have come in the IPL, with the rest two coming in the now defunct tournament Champions League T20.

Apart from the 15 fifties, Virat also has scored 3 hundreds on this ground, all of them in the last season. He also scored four half centuries last season at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.
