The former skipper and the banned Australian cricketer Steve Smith is all set to return to 22 yards as he will feature in the Global T20 League in Canada. He has been named as the marquee player in the tournament having been approached to play by the organisers. Even Cricket Australia (CA) has permitted him to ply his trade in the domestic cricket outside the country. However, Smith has decided to donate his playing fee to grassroots cricket programs in Australia as well as in Canada.

He was suspended by the Australian cricket board for 12 months along with his deputy David Warner for their role in the infamous ball-tampering scandal in March. Even Cameron Bancroft has been banned for 9 months who tried to tamper the ball on the field in Cape Town. The national team will be without their gun players across all the formats as they will only return a few months before the World Cup.

Smith resumes training

According to cricket.com.au, Steve Smith will donate all the earnings from the T20 League to the sports development programs in Canada and Australia. He has already started his training regimen in Sydney to get himself match ready for the tournament which will commence on June 28. His father is helping him out in the nets and is also training hard in the gym to keep himself fit.

While playing in Canada and as a part of his deal with the organisers, Smith will be involved in community cricket initiatives and training camps to help promote the sport in the country. He will be joined by international stars like Chris Gayle, Shahid Afridi, Lasith Malinga, Sunil Narine, Dwayne Bravo among many others. A total of six teams Edmonton Royals, Montreal Tigers, Toronto Nationals, Vancouver Knights, Winnipeg Hawks and Cricket West Indies will battle it out for the ultimate glory.
