The match 11 of the T20 Mumbai league went down to the last over only for ARCS Andheri to steal the game. Shubham Ranjane and Praful Waghela were exceptional with the bat as they literally won the match for their team with their partnership. North Mumbai Panthers, on the other hand, lost their first game of the season and were rather undone by a better team.

While chasing a total of 161 runs, the Andheri team got off to a worst possible start. They lost their top order in the first nine overs itself with only 41 runs on the board. Not many had given them the chance of pulling off a heist with the required rate over 10. But Ranjane and Waghela batted superbly to add 114 runs for the fourth wicket and made sure that the required run-rate never went out of reach.

Atif Attarwala bowled a superb penultimate over to leave 13 runs in the final over for Sairaj Patil to defend. The action got intense even as Waghela was run-out with 5 runs needed from last three balls. But Gaurav Jathar kept his cool and smashed a four to take his team over the line with two balls left and six wickets in hand.

Panthers post 160 thanks to Atif

After opting to bat first, the Panthers were rocked early with their skipper Prithvi Shaw getting out to Salil Agharkar after scoring only 14 runs. However, Vikrant Auti and Karan Nande then played cautiously to put up a 48-run stand in the next six overs. Both of them took their time before scoring a few runs quickly. The former though castled by Iqbal Abdulla and since then, the Panthers could never stitch a decent partnership.

They lost wickets at regular intervals and one felt, the Panthers would end up with an under-par total. Gaurav Jathar and Abdulla bowled well in the middle overs to keep a check on the opposition’s run-scoring. But Atif Attarwala’s blitz of 26 runs off just 10 deliveries propelled the Panthers to a decent total of 160 runs for the loss of seven wickets after 20 overs. Eventually, his efforts weren’t enough thanks to some brilliant batting from Ranjane and Waghela.
