SA20 2023 Stats
SA20, the top-tier South African T20 league is all set to witness its first season as the competition is scheduled to begin on January 10. A total of six teams will collide in the league for the coveted title in almost a month-long event. It is worth mentioning that the teams in the league have been bought by the owners of the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises.
MI Cape Town, Paarl Royals, Durban Super Giants, Joburg Super Kings, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, and Pretoria Capitals are the six sides taking part in the all-exciting event. The season will be a treat for the fans as they will be on the edge of their seats to keep track of the SA20 live scores and follow their favourite franchises.
The SA20 commissioner, Graeme Smith, is fairly optimistic about the top-tier league and has hopes that the tournament adds values to South African cricket in the same way IPL has to Indian cricket. He also emphasized on the fact that the league will give a platform to the youngsters to play alongside some high-profile names and utilise the opportunity to its fullest.
A total of 33 matches will be played in the event and unlike the rest of the domestic leagues around the world that follow a 'play-off' format, SA20 will have the traditional semi-final rounds followed by the summit clash.
It essentially means that finishing anywhere in the top four at the end of the group stage would not make a massive difference as it does in the IPL or the other domestic leagues that follow the 'play-off' format.
Going by the SA20 schedule, all the teams will play each other twice in a double round-robin fashion and the top-four teams on the standings will then progress to the elimination rounds. MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals will lock horns with each other in the opening game at Newlands in Cape Town on January 10.
