The Off Field Battles- Real Wars Fought Between Cricketing Nations: We are all aware of the cricketing battles on the field that takes place between the countries. But off the field as well, a number of battles have been fought between some of the cricketing countries. Indeed, we are talking about the political wars that were being fought between the cricketing playing countries in the darkening phases of history. Just to take a step towards the unorthodox end, we will be discussing about the wars, rather the real wars in which the cricket playing nations were involved. Let us spend some time in rediscovering the histories between the countries off the cricket field. India & Pakistan: India vs Pakistan First ever test. Wars and conflicts were frequent issues among these two nations. Thus, the derby between India and Pakistan on the field is regarded as the most heated contests in cricket. India and Pakistan were involved in wars amongst them in 1947, for the partition era, in 1965, for the stature of Jammu and Kashmir, in 1971, for the partition between East and West Pakistan and in 1999, the Kargil War. India & England: (Source) India attained freedom fighting against the British in the year 1947 after the British ruled over the country for a span of 200 years. They entered into the nation to trade as the British East India Company, owing to the wealthy resources present in the country. But soon, India was seized by them and were the proclaimed rulers of the country. Numerous battles were fought and millions of lives were lost as a result of those movements and revolts. But such fights did not lead to cast a shadow in the cricketing field. South Africa & England: A number of African nations were being colonized by the British and also slavery system was being carried on in such states. South Africa happened to be one of the colonies of the British. On 31st May, 1910, South Africa were freed from the colonial rules of the British. However, the country celebrates April 27, 1994 as its independence day, owing to the fact that the first democratic elections were held then. South Africa emerged to be a prestigious cricketing nation since the 1992 World Cup. Bangladesh & Pakistan: (Source) Prior to 1971, Bangladesh happened to fall under Pakistan in the name of East Pakistan. After a series of wars for quite a prolonged period of time and with the sacrifice of thousands of revolutionaries, Bangladesh earned its freedom on March 26, 1971, and proclaimed itself as an independent nation in the name of Bangladesh. India as a nation along with its armed forces had backed the demand of the East Pakistan province for freedom and played a major role in partitioning the two countries and established peace between them as well. Bangladesh emerged as a good cricketing nation since 1996 and earned its test status in 2000. Australia & South Africa: (Source) The Second Boer War (Second War of Freedom) was fought between the British, aided by Australian forces and the South African republic and the Orange Free State. The war continued for a span of 3 years from 1899 to 1902 and British won the war. Sri Lanka & England: (Source) The island country, Sri Lanka happened to be under the colonial rules of the British empire as well. As a result of a peaceful revolutionary movement, Sri Lanka attained their Freedom on February 4, 1948, and was named Sri Lanka. The commonwealth was retained by British till 1972 when Sri Lanka became a republic and was renamed as Republic of Sri Lanka.
