Another pair that complimented each other with contrasting styles of play, Atapattu and Jayasuriya formed an excellent partnership for Sri Lanka. While the right-hander had a horrible start to his international career and made several comebacks before establishing himself in the national side, the southpaw was an attacking lower order batsman who was promoted to open the innings in ODIs before cementing his place in the Test team. Both went to have highly successful careers and their partnership produced 4533 runs at an average of 39.41 from 122 innings with 9 century and 24 half-century stands with the best of 335 against Pakistan at Kandy in 2000.
