Top 10 highest individual scores in Ranji Trophy: Lokesh Rahul became the latest entrant in the triple century club of Ranji Trophy with his excellent 337 against Uttar Pradesh. This incidentally also is the 8th highest individual score in the record books of the Ranji Trophy. Here we look at the top 10 highest individual scores in Ranji trophy history: 10. Kedar Jadhav (Maharashtra) 327 vs. Uttar Pradesh 2012-13 (Photo Source: ESPNcricinfo Ltd) Kedar Jadhav who plays for Maharashtra in Ranji trophy recently made his Ranji Trophy debut against Sri Lanka in Ranchi. Jadhav scored 327 against Uttar Pradesh in Ranji Trophy season 2012-13. His knock consisted of 54 fours and 2 sixes. Maharashtra scored a mammoth 764/4 dec., and U.P replied in kind with 669/7 with centuries from Tanmay Srivastava (179) and Captain Piyush Chawla (176). The match ended in a draw with Maharashtra taking the first inning lead. 9. Ravindra Jadeja (Saurashtra) 331 vs. Railways 2012-13 (Photo Source: AFP) Indian all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja became only the 8th man and first Indian in first class cricket history to have 3 scores of over 300 in First class cricket. Jadeja got this record with his 3rd triple century, when he scored 331 against Railways in 2012-13 Ranji season. Playing on his home-ground in Rajkot, Jadeja scored 331 with help of 29 fours and 9 sixes. This was his second triple hundred in the same season. Saurashtra scored 576 runs and Railways replied with 335, playing out a draw. 8. Lokesh Rahul (Karnataka) 337 vs. Uttar Pradesh 2014-15 (Photo Source: PTI) Lokesh Rahul scored the highest individual score for Karnataka Ranji side with his superlative 337 laced with 47 boundaries and 4 sixes. Along with a century from Abrar Kazi (117), Rahul took Karnataka to 719/9 dec. Uttar Pradesh were bowled out for 220 runs in their first innings. 7. Sunil Gavaskar (Mumbai) 340 vs. Bengal 1981-82 (Photo Source: ESPNcricinfo Ltd) The little master scored his only triple century in First Class cricket against Bengal in 1981-82. Gavaskar scored 340 runs with 48 fours and 2 sixes and shared an opening partnership- of 421 runs with Ghulam Parkar (156). Mumbai scored 652/6 dec, in response to Bengal’s 252 runs. Bombay won the match by an innings and 181 runs by dismissing Bengal for 219 in second innings. 6. Cheteshwar Pujara (Saurashtra) 352 vs. Karnataka 2012-13 (Photo: AFP) Saurashtra met Karnataka in Ranji Trophy 2012-13 quarterfinal in Rajkot. Saurashtra scored 469 runs in their first innings before dismissing Karnataka for 396 runs. Saurashtra then scored 718/9 in their second innings in which Cheteshwar Pujara scored 352 runs with 49 fours and 1 six in 427 balls. Saurashtra advanced to the semi-finals on the basis of first innings lead. 5. VVS Laxman (Hyderabad) 353 vs. Karnataka 1999-00 (Photo Source: AFP) Laxman scored a massive 353 runs against Karnataka in 560 balls with 52 fours and 2 sixes. Hyderabad scored 711/8 dec with century from Captain Mohd. Azharuddin (123). Karnataka replied with 557 runs and the match resulted in a draw. Laxman has also scored another triple century (301) against Bihar in 1997-98 season. 4. Vijay Merchant (Bombay) 359* vs. Maharashtra 1943-44 (Photo Source: PA Photos) Bombay met Maharashtra in Brabourne Stadium and decided to bat first. Vijay Merchant 359* with 31 fours and along with Rusi Modi who scored 168, took Bombay to 735 all out. Maharashtra replied with 298, but time ran out in the match and it was drawn. Vijay Merchant’s 359* is the 4th highest score in Ranji history. 3. MV Sridhar (Hyderabad) 366 vs. Andhra Pradesh 1993-94 Andhra Pradesh batted first in this match and scored 263 runs. In reply, Hyderabad decided to just bat on and on. MV Sridhar scored a massive 366 runs with 37 fours and 5 sixes. He along with V.Jaisimha(211) and Noel David(207) took Hyderabad to a record 944/6 dec. MV Sridhar had shared 300 plus run partnerships with both Jaisimha and David. 2. Sanjay Manjrekar (Bombay) 377 vs. Hyderabad 1990-91 Sanjay Manjrekar scored 377 against Hyderabad, the highest score by a Mumbai batman in Ranji Trophy and the second highest score in Ranji history. Mumbai batted first and scored 855/6 dec. Thanks to Manjrekar’s 377 off just 473 balls including 50 fours and 5 sixes. He was ably supported by Dilip Vengsarkar (121) and Vinod Kambli (126).Hyderabad replied in style with 498 with MV Sridhar scoring 184 and Swaroop scoring 123. Sanjay Manjrekar played 37 tests for India from 1987-1996. 1. Bhausaheb Nimbalkar (Maharashtra) 443* vs. Kathiawar 1948-49 This is the most famous score in Indian First Class cricket history. Maharashtra met Kathiawar in the 1st round of Ranji Trophy in Poona. Kathiawar batted first and scored 238 runs on the first day. Maharashtra made the Kathiawar chase leather for 2 days and scored 826 for 4 wickets at lunch on 3rd day. During the lunch, the Captain of Kathiawar Thakore Saheb of Rajkot called the Maharashtra captain Raja Gokhale and gave him an ultimatum to either declare the innings or his team would pack their bags and leave. Thakore sahib didn’t wanted the Kathiawar team’s name in record books for wrong reasons as Bhausaheb Nimbalkar stood on 443*, 9 runs shy of then record of Sir Don Bradman’s 452 and also the record set by Holkars 9 years earlier of 912. But the Kathiawar captain refused to budge to request of even 2 overs for Nimbalkar to break the record and decided to pack their bags and left for the station to catch their train back. No negotiations were entertained. Even a wireless message from Sir Don himself requesting the Kathiwar captain to allow Nimbalkar to break his record could soften Kathiawar Captain. In the end, poor Nimbalkar was left stranded on 443*, just 9 runs shy of a world record. He was sent a note by Sir Don lauding him for his effort. Maharashtra were awarded the match by forfeit. Bhausaheb Nimbalkar’s 443* remains the highest individual score in Ranji Trophy. *All stats updated til 11th February 2015.
