Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka met in the 1992 tournament at the New Plymouth ground. Zimbabwe batted first and scored an imposing 312 runs for 4 wickets. Their top scorers were a debuting Andy Flower (115) and Andy Waller (83 off 45 balls).

Sri Lanka chased down this score thanks to Arjuna Ranatunga’s 88* and opener Atula Samarasekara’s 75 off 61 balls. Sri Lanka crossed the finish line in 50th over scoring 313/7. They became the first team to chase down a total of 300 runs in ODI history.
