Top 10 Highest Team totals in T20 Internationals: There have been many tweaks and improvisations in the beautiful game of cricket over the years. But none have changed its dimensions quite like T20 cricket has. It has not only helped bring the new audience to the sport but also modified and on many occasions changed the traditional notions. All these result oriented Test matches we are encountering would not have been a reality in the absence of the flavour T20s have brought to the stage. And with shorter boundaries and bigger bats massive totals are a common sight. Most of the largest team totals you’ll find come in T20 World cups because that’s when major teams get to play minnows and impose their superiority. But even elsewhere when sides with mighty batting prowess take the bowling to the cleaners such occurrences are witnessed. Gautam Gambhir and Virender Sehwag were finding the English bowling pretty easy to handle and made 136 runs for the opening wicket which remained a record for the next 8 years. But the greater record was to come when Yuvraj stepped onto the field and Flintoff spurred him with a few words. What followed was carnage. Yuvi hit young Stuart Broad for six majestic sixes in one over to bring the Durban crowd to its feet. But the real flourish came when the experienced Johnston decided to go berserk to finish with 62 off just 32 balls. But that is what the Caribbean team is all about. You can’t say what will they come up with on a particular day. A fantastic century by captain Faf du Plessis (119) and some late order hitting by David Miller (47) got the hosts to a massive 231 in the 20 overs. But Chris Gayle (90 off 41 balls) made light work of the total and was ably supported in his quest by Marlon Samuels who made 60 crucial runs. Having conceded a massive 231 while fielding the visitors didn’t get over odd and came out all guns blazing. The mighty Gayle hit 7 out of the ground on his way to 90 while Marlon Samuels supported him brilliantly. AB de Villiers helped them reach a daunting 241 after 20 overs. England fast-medium bowler Sajid Mahmood had the unflattering figures of 4-0-61-1. Aaron Finch made the highest individual score in T20 internationals smashing 156 off just 63 balls which included 14 massive sixes. Jehan Mubarak went on the rampage towards the end of the Sri Lankan innings as he hit three boundaries and five sixes in his 13-ball 46 taking his team to 260 which is the second highest score by a team in T20Is. It was Glenn Maxwell’s night and when the Big Show takes center stage more often than not its he who rules the proceedings while everyone else including the bowlers are mere spectators. He was promoted to the opening slot and made most of it. He faced 65 balls more than 50% of the team’s inning and scored 55% of the team’s total. At the end of the inning Maxwell was unbeaten on 145 from 65 balls with 14 fours and 9 sixes. Skipper Warner contributed 28 to the team total, Usman Khawaja though struggled scored 36 and towards the end Travis Head played an entertaining knock of 45 off 18 balls to give them a push towards overhauling the highest T20I score of 260. In all, the Australian batters plundered 14 sixes and 25 fours on the night. Both the batsmen Maxwell who were unbeaten at the end and Head scored with a strike rate over 200. It was 223 for the opener and 250 for the latter. It was a tall ask for the Sri Lankan batters who would come out with a mountain to climb but failed.
