Rajasthan Royals bounced back to winning ways in Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024) with a three-wicket win over Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Saturday, April 13 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh. After being put in to bat first, Punjab struggled throughout their innings and managed to score 147/8 in their allotted 20 overs courtesy of contributions from Jitesh Sharma (29 off 24), Liam Livingstone (21 off 14) and Ashutosh Sharma.

In reply, Rajasthan also found it tough on the slowish surface but eventually got over the line in the final over courtesy of a quick-fire cameo from Shimron Hetmyer. Following their win, Rajasthan maintained the top spot on the points table with ten points from six matches while Punjab slipped to eighth position having four points from six matches.

1. Ashutosh Sharma guides Punjab to a respectable total

The 25-year-old walked in to bat with his team reeling at 103/6 after 16.1 overs. The right-handed batter wasted no time in settling down and played a quick-fire cameo of 31 off 16 balls with the help of one four and three sixes. Courtesy of his innings, Punjab posted a respectable total of 147/8 in their allotted 20 overs.

2. Sanju Samson pulls off an MS Dhoni style run out

The Rajasthan Royals captain reminded fans of MS Dhoni as he inflicted a smart run out of Liam Livingstone. On the fifth ball of the 18th over, the Punjab batter tried to steal a couple of runs against Tanush Kotian. However, the youngster threw the ball straight to the wicket-keeper who threw the ball onto the stumps with one hand after collecting it to run out Livingstone and reminded fans of MS Dhoni.

3. Shimron Hetmyer guides Rajasthan home with his quick-fire cameo

The southpaw walked in to bat with RR on 113/4 after 16.4 overs needing 35 runs to win from 20 balls. The situation got tense as Rovman Powell and Dhruv Jurel also got dismissed leaving Hetmyer as the only recognized batter at the crease. However, the 27-year-old was unfazed by the challenge and scored 27 off just 10 balls with the help of one four and three sixes to take his team over the line on the penultimate ball of the game.
