Pakistan women beat New Zealand women for the first time in ODI history during the third ODI at Hagley Oval, Christchurch.

Having already lost the ODI series against New Zealand women, Pakistan women registered a consolation win in the third and final match of the series on Monday, December 18 at Hagley Oval, Christchurch. Notably, it was the first win by Pakistan over New Zealand women in ODIs. After being put in to bat first, New Zealand posted a decent score of 251/8 in their allotted 50 overs riding on a brilliant knock from Amelia Kerr (77 off 87).

In reply, Pakistan also managed to tie the score riding on a brilliant knock from Bismah Maroof (68 off 86). The two teams contested in a super over after the tied affair where Pakistan batted first and scored 11 runs. In reply, Sadia Iqbal successfully defended the score by dismissing Amelia Kerr and Sophie Devine inside five balls as New Zealand could only score 8 runs.

As a result, Pakistan won their first-ever ODI game over New Zealand Women as Bismah Maroof was awarded Player of the Match. The former Pakistan skipper held the innings together as other batters played around her. She got involved in a massive 101-run stand with Aliya Riaz (44 off 84) for the third wicket. Apart from her, captain Fatima Sana (36 off 33), Natalia Perviaz (26 off 23) and Najiha Alvi (23 off 26) also made valuable contributions for their side and helped their side level the score.

Earlier in the day, New Zealand lost their opener Isabella Gaze (9 off 28) in the eighth over with 21 runs on the board. Suzie Bates (24 off 40) and Sophie Devine (29 off 32) also failed to get their innings going leaving New Zealand on 99/3 after 23.2 overs. However, Amelia Kerr (77 off 87) and Maddy Green (65* off 69) played brilliant knocks to help their side reach 251/8 in their allotted 50 overs. Nashara Sandhu (2/59) and Ghulam Fatima (2/59) picked up two wickets each for Pakistan.
