Big blow for Pakistan as Nida Dar, Diana Baig sustain injuries

Dar was struck in the face in the first ODI against NZ-W, whereas, Baig fractured her finger during a practice session.

In a major development for Pakistan women, who are currently competing in an ODI series against New Zealand, the visitors have got major setbacks as Diana Baig and skipper Nida Dar have sustained injuries.

Taking on the White Ferns in the first ODI of the ongoing series, Dar was hit in the face during the 44th over of the first inningsbwhen Sophie Devine was batting. She received immediate medical attention but was taken off afterwards.

With her injury, her participation in the second and third ODIs is uncertain. Omaima Sohail completed the over in Dar’s absence, and Sadaf Shamas came in as her replacement in the second innings; however, she failed to make much impact as she was dismissed for just 10 runs during the run chase. 

"After assessing Nida's condition, the team physio has determined that Nida will not take any further part in today's ODI, the decision on Nida's participation in the remaining matches of the series will be made in due course,” the PCB said in a statement. 

Baig sustains fracture in right index finger

Furthermore, to worsen the situation, f 28-year-old Diana Baig also suffered an injury while fielding during a practice session. She was taken to the hospital right after, where scans revealed that she had a fracture.

"While fielding in a practice session, [Baig] suffered an injury to the index finger of her bowling arm. Immediately after the incident, she was taken to a local hospital for a thorough examination, including an X-ray,” the statement read.

"The medical reports have confirmed a horizontal fracture in Diana Baig's index finger, making her unavailable for the ODI series against the White Ferns. The PCB medical team is closely monitoring her condition, and she will undergo further assessments to determine the extent of the injury and the necessary course of action for her recovery."
