The Hurricanes’ merry way continues in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL). The duo of D’Arcy Short and Matthew Wade are going through a purple patch this season and they didn’t lose their wickets while chasing down the total of 155 runs at the Adelaide Oval. The Strikers didn’t have any clue what was going on and eventually looked helpless after a few overs as the wicket didn’t seem to fall in the second innings.

After posting a decent total on the board, the defending champions were hoping for some quick wickets in order to restrict the table toppers. But not even a single wicket fell in the entire innings. Matthew Wade and Short started off cautiously and launched an assault on the opposition as the powerplay came to a close. The fact that the Strikers had to bring Rashid Khan into the attack only in the second over proves that the hosts were aware of the threat the openers possess.

But even that move didn’t pay off as Wade ended on 84 off 49 deliveries while his partner finished the proceedings to remain unbeaten on 73 off 52 balls. The Strikers employed for seven bowlers during their 16.5 but to no avail as the duo didn’t spare any of them. A thumping victory has taken the points tally for the Hurricanes to 16 and they are way ahead of the other teams now.

Ingram propels Strikers

Earlier in the day, the Strikers opted to bat first and were propelled by Alex Carey’s return to the side. But he couldn’t do much and was sent back on 28 even as his partner Jake Weatherald also failed. The real impetus to the innings was given by the skipper Colin Ingram who upped the ante when it beckoned and remained not out on 67 off 36 balls with six fours and three fours to his name.

Jonathan Wells also played a valuable hand but he clever Hurricanes bowling attack never let the opposition off the hook. Eventually, they posted 154 runs for the loss of five wickets which looked competitive at the half-way mark. But little did the Strikers know that they will be pounded this way by the Hurricanes openers.
