Twitter Reactions: Nat Sciver too good for Welsh Fire as Trent Rockets register third straight win
Sciver's half-century bailed the Rockets out of jail in their run-chase.
The Trent Rockets started the Hundred Women’s with two defeats on the trot. However, the team has made a stupendous comeback and registered their third victory in succession on Friday, August 6. They defeated the Welsh Fire by four wickets with eight balls to spare. The Fire, on the other hand, lost their third match, and are currently languishing at the sixth spot in the points table.
Johnson, Graham bowl well
The Fire started on a handsome note, thanks to a 34-run stand for the opening wicket between Bryony Smith and Hayley Matthews. Even as Smith notched 27 off 16 with three fours and a six, Matthews made a 32-ball 28 with two fours and a six. However, after Heather Graham and Sammy-Jo Johnson dismissed them respectively, the Fire innings couldn’t gain any momentum whatsoever.
Sarah Taylor and Georgia Hennessy scored 11 runs each but were unable to make their starts count. Graham was their standout bowler as she picked up three wickets at an economy rate of 0.70. Johnson picked up three wickets as well. Sarah Glenn got the other scalp of Katie George. Katherine Brunt, the veteran fast bowler, was frugal, though she couldn’t add to the wickets’ column.
Sciver comes to the party
The Rockets got off to the worst possible start as Smith castled former New Zealand batter, Rachel Priest. Thereafter, Matthews sent back Johnson for a golden duck. However, Nat Sciver and Brunt brought all their experience to the fore and brought the Rockets out of jail. The duo stitched together a handy 66-run stand for the third wicket off 58 balls to put their team in command.
Brunt got out to Piepa Cleary after scoring 20, but Sciver carried on. The Rockets’ skipper went on to score 54 runs off 40 balls with eight fours at a strike rate of 135. When she got out to Cleary, the Rockets needed 10 runs off 18 balls. The Fire picked up the late wickets of Graham and Glenn, but it wasn’t enough to secure them a win. Sciver became the Player of the Match for her knock.
