The table toppers Sunrisers Hyderabad locked horns with the bottom placed Delhi Daredevils in the match number 42 of the Indian Premier League 2018. Coming in to the game, the Sunrisers knew that a win for them will seal their spot in the playoffs. On the other hand, the match was all about survival for the hosts, the Delhi Daredevils.

A win will not guarantee them a place in the final four, but will certainly keep their hopes alive. As the things stand at the half way stage in the game, the Daredevils would reckon they have missed the trick by not posting a very secure total on the board. The Delhi Daredevils won the toss and opted to bat first. Clearly, they did not want the Sunrisers to play to their strengths of defending totals.

The hosts called back Jason Roy in the lineup but the move did not work. Roy and the other opener, Prithvi Shaw, were sent packing in the fourth over bowled by Shakib Al Hasan. Shakib bagged two in two to put the Daredevils on the backfoot. A run out a couple of overs later saw Shreyas Iyer getting dismissed on 3.

Well, the wickets from one end kept tumbling but the Daredevils’ innings was all about one man. Hard-hitting southpaw Rishabh Pant continued his belligerent run of form in the game. He broke several records en route his thundering knock on the day. He reached his fifty in the 14th over and took just four more overs to reach his maiden IPL ton.

He had missed out on an IPL ton last year but certainly made up for it this season. En route his whirlwind innings, he also became the youngest player in the history of the tournament to score 1000 runs. Also, he became the second youngest cricketer to score and IPL hundred after Manish Pandey’s effort in 2009.

Pant was unstoppable on the day. He milked Bhuvneshwar Kumar for 26 runs in the final over of the innings to take Delhi Daredevils to 187/5 in 20 overs. He remained unbeaten on 128 off just 63 deliveries with 15 fours and 7 sixes to his name.
