Twitter Reactions: Twitterati troll 'Bhumi Pujan' Shikhar Dhawan

Indian opener Shikhar Dhawan is gradually becoming a troll favorite on Twitter. He hasn’t been in the best of forms opening the batting for the national team and getting out early has attracted trolls to give him a name ‘Bhoomi Poojan Shikhar Dhawan’ which refers to him walking out completing the formality, inaugurating the innings and then walking back soon after. He was dismissed for just 1 run in the first ODI against England while the team was up chasing 351 runs.

Shikhar hasn’t really been a part of the team in the last few series’ he isn’t the first choice opener in either formats. In ODI and T20I Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul have the opening responsibility while in Tests it is Murali Vijay and Rahul. Since Rohit is injured the southpaw was recalled in the team and he definitely didn’t get off to a great start.

The visitors had posted a huge target and the task was stiff for the Men in Blue. They were expecting the openers to kick off the chase and put immediate pressure on the opposition while what happened was both the Indian openers Dhawan and Rahul got into a shell, the England seamers didn’t let them score runs and the left-hander was the first one to be dismissed on 1 after facing 10 deliveries.

He tried to cut the last ball of the 4th over from David Willey but it took the edge and went straight to Moeen Ali at third man who fumbled but managed to hold onto the juggle. Shattering all the expectations he was on his way back and Rahul too couldn’t carry on longer and was bowled by Willey for 8.

Team India was in a soup at 63/4 but that was when the master class of Virat Kohli and courage of Kedar Jadhav bailed them out and Hardik Pandya’s finishing act took them home with 3 wickets and 11 balls to spare.
