Rishabh Pant has been in the Indian setup ever since the Test series against England. He made his debut at Trent Bridge in Nottingham and has featured for the national team on a consistent basis. He was included on the basis of his stupendous performance for India ‘A’ in England. The 21-year-old was outstanding in the two-match Test series against the Windies.

He scored 92 blistering runs in the opening match in Rajkot and then followed it up with the same score in the second Test in Rajkot. Later, he was drafted into the ODI team for the five-match series against the Caribbean team. In the first match in Guwahati, he didn’t get an opportunity to bat as the likes of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli helped India track down a 300 plus score.

Jadhav replaces Pant

The youngster couldn’t perform in the second match in Visakhapatnam as, having perished for 17 runs to part-time off-spinner Marlon Samuels. He had a chance to make amends in the third encounter at MCA Stadium in Pune. Unfortunately, he was nipped out by Ashley Nurse just when he was threatening to take the opponents by the scruff of their necks.

In the meantime, Kedar Jadhav, who didn’t play the first three matches due to lack of fitness, made his comeback into the playing eleven for the fourth and penultimate ODI at Brabourne Stadium in Pune. His inclusion meant that Pant was left out of the team. The same has agitated the supporters to a large extent. They reckon MS Dhoni should have been dropped.

Dhoni batted a couple of times in the ODI series, but was unable to make any sort of an impact with the bat in hand. In the previous match, he had a chance to help India chase down a steep target along with captain Virat Kohli, but he couldn’t deliver the goods. The supporters believe Pant should’ve been given more chances to prove his mettle in the 50-overs format.
