He is generally a popular figure on the social media. But former Indian opener Virender Sehwag saw a less smiling luck this time and was brutally trolled by the Twitterati. His fault? He spoke in favour of T10 League, the latest craze in the cricketing world which has been sanctioned by the International Cricket Council and the England Cricket Board and will see its second edition to be organised in November. Held in the United Arab Emirates, the second edition of the tournament will be an eight-side affair unlike the first which saw six sides, thanks to its popular reception.

Sehwag, who was part of the inaugural edition in which he captained the Maratha Arabians in two games, has been appointed as the batting coach of the same side for the current edition, promoted the league on Twitter asking the supporters to show support for it. But the fans were not in a mood to appreciate it with many saying that such short formats were harming the game instead of cheering it up.

“The @T10LeagueTweets looks stronger than ever with its added teams and ICC/ECB sanctions in place. World’s first ten overs cricket league ready to roll from 23 November. Show your support to the revolution in cricket,” Sehwag said in his tweet. The tweet was liked 4.3k times at the time of writing this report but there were also fans who lashed out at the 39-year-old former cricketer for promoting the shortest format of the game.

Azharuddin has a different take on T10 League

Although Sehwag backed the T10 League, another former Indian cricketer Mohammad Azharuddin recently said that he found it better to stay away from the latest league since there were reports on circulation that did not give a fair impression about the league.

He said in a tweet that he was approached to direct a talent hunt in India for the T10 League but the recent reports stopped him from going ahead. Last year, a Pakistani cricketer named Zulqarnain Haider brought allegations that fixing took place in the inaugural edition of the tournament in Sharjah.
