Once bitten, twice shy. Former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin on Friday revealed a story that might interest the Anti-Corruption Units. However, the former stylish batsman also showed that his past experience as a cricketer stopped him from going forward and get involved in something that he wasn’t convinced about.

The 55-year-old former cricketer was slapped with a life ban by the Indian board in 2000 following allegations of match-fixing against him and he fell short of 100 Test matches by just one game. Though he was cleared later by Hyderabad courts, the spot remains. Azharuddin, who led India for the most part of the 1990s, is currently in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) as an expert for the ongoing Asia Cup and he came up with something interesting on social media.

Azharuddin said he was asked to take up the role of a director of a talent hunt in India for the T10 League which started last year in the UAE but after going through the recent media reports surrounding the league, he decided to maintain a distance with the same. However, Azhar did not forget to wish the tournament, which gained popularity in its first year and has been made into an eight-side affair this year.

Pakistan cricketer alleged about fixing in T10 League

In December last year, Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Zulqarnain Haider brought allegations that fixing was taking place in the inaugural edition of the T10 League in Sharjah, Pakistan’s Samaa TV reported.

The 32-year-old cricketer also claimed that the fixers had contacts with Pakistani cricketers and that he too was approached by a couple of fixers called Munnu and Wazir. He was also allegedly warned by them not to reveal things to anybody. Haider said he had informed the Pakistan Cricket Board and sought security from the government since he was allegedly given death threats.

The first edition of the tournament was a two-week affair in mid-December and it was the Kerala Kings who lifted the title at the end. This year, the tournament will start on November 23 and continue till December 2.
