Pakistan fans are disappointed after the team was knocked out of the Asia Cup 2018 by Bangladesh. The board is also looking into it from the accountability point of view. The team was expected to put up a much better display and at least play the final. Another highlight was the fact that they met India twice in the tournament, lost on both occasions. However, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ehsan Mani is confident of the team’s leadership.

Skipper Sarfraz Ahmed has been under pressure from all quarters after the team’s disappointing run. The Asia Cup has exposed chinks in the armour of the reigning Champions Trophy champs. While the team was riding on some form heading into the tournament both their batting as well as bowling units underperformed. Mani has, however, backed Sarfraz and thinks they don’t need to make a whole lot of changes to get back on track.

While a lot was expected from the likes of Fakhar Zaman, Babar Azam as well as Sarfraz, they all failed to deliver and the batting unit heavily relied on Shoaib Malik and Imam-ul-Haq to get the runs.

Decision on appointing vice-captain

Talking to the Daily Express, the PCB chairman said: “When team wins, we all get appreciated, and now that the team has lost, they are asking for change but I want to make it clear that I don’t have any plans to bring change at this moment.”

The board will meet with the team management in the next few days to make a decision on the vice-captain of the team. “I will meet the team management in couple of days. We will have brief discussion on it and we will also discuss Pakistan team’s performance in the Asia Cup,” said Mani.

The Pakistan team will next host Australia in the UAE, the tour gets underway tomorrow (September 28) with the four-day practice match. The two-match Test series starts on October 16 and the three-match T20I series begins on October 24, the tour will conclude on October 28.
