India U19 team sensationally won the Asia Cup recently by defeating, rather thumping Sri Lanka U19 in the final which was played in Dhaka. They looked a team completely playing at a different level and remained unbeaten throughout the competition. Yashasvi Jaiswal was one of the star players for the Colts in Blue who won the Man of the Tournament award as well and has credited the former India cricketer Wasim Jaffer for his success.

Jaiswal notched up the scores of 104,92 and 37 before playing a brilliant knock of 85 runs in the final to help India clinch the title. Interestingly, he was dropped from the team for the Sri Lanka tour which took place before the Asia Cup. However, the youngster didn’t perturb and made sure that he stays in the right frame of mind for the big tournament.

Simple but shrewd advice from the veteran

Yashaswi Jaiswal was dismissed twice stepping out of his crease in the recent U19 home quadrangular series after which he sought help from Mumbai batsman and the domestic legend Wasim Jaffer. “Don’t leave the crease until you’re well set and sure of getting on top of the bowlers,” Jaffer adviced the cricketer and Yashasvi promptly followed it to achieve grand success in the Asia Cup.

Jaiswal also mentioned that Wasim told him not to leave his crease unless he is sure about reaching the pitch of the ball. As it turned out, the talented cricketer never stepped out except in the final.

“It was Wasim bhai who came as a big help. He said sab grounded shot mar, aur tez maar so that boundary mile (Play grounded shots and hit ferociously so that you will get a boundary). Once I’m not sure I should not leave my crease. I just did that during this Asia Cup, I never stepped out except in final,” Yashasvi told while speaking to the Indian Express.
