India and Sri Lanka were unbeaten ahead of the final of the U19 Asia Cup at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur. The match was expected to be a crackerjack, but it turned to be completely one-sided in favour of India as they won the match by 144 runs to win the championship. Lanka, on the other hand, were outplayed in all three departments.

Jaiswal top scores for India

After India won the toss and elected to bat first, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Anuj Rawat put on a partnership of 121 runs in 151 deliveries to start the innings. Left-arm spinner Dulith Wellalage broke the stand by getting rid of Rawat for 57 runs. Devdutt Padikkal joined Jaiswal in the middle and the duo added 59 more runs. However, both Padikkal and Jaiswal perished in quick succession.

While Jaiswal fell prey to Kalana Perera for 85 after which Padikkal was removed by Kalhara Senaratne. Nevertheless, Prabh Simran Singh and Ayush Badoni didn’t die wondering and injected impetus into the innings. They went berserk and cobbled together 110 runs from merely 55 balls. Both batters remained not out and shouldered India to a daunting score of 304/3 in 50 overs.

Harsh Tyagi rips apart Lanka

Lanka lost skipper Nipun Dananjaya to fast bowler Mohit Jangra for 12 to start their run chase. But Nishan Madushka and Pasindu Sooriyabandra got their team back into the match with a 46-run stand. Left-arm spinner Harsh Tyagi nipped out the latter and thereafter, the Islanders couldn’t arrest their slump. Maduskha, after scoring 49 runs, became Tyagi’s fourth victim.

Barring Navod Paranavithana, no other batsmen could put stave off Tyagi, who got his five-wicket-haul with the wicket of Sandun Mendis. Tyagi eventually picked up six wickets for 38 runs. Siddharth Desai removed the last batsman to guide India to glory in the multi-nation event. Paranavithana churned out a knock of 48 runs from 61 balls, but it wasn’t going to be enough to rescue Lanka.
