Watch: A game changing decision which went wrong in the Ireland vs Zimbabwe match: Umpiring in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 has really raised a few concerns, while the panel of best umpires has been deployed by the ICC for the mega event along with their being a review with the DRS available with each team in every innings. We have seen a few controversial decisions being given. One among them was in the Ireland vs Zimbabwe match, and it proved to be a worth the match to the African team. Ireland was the challenger being the smaller team (associate) while Zimbabwe had to win it being the more experienced side among the two (test playing nation). The matchup at Hobart was expected to be a closely fought one as Ireland has and Zimbabwe has not performed to their reputation and expectation in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 so far. And the match actually turned out to be a really close one. The Irish batting first put up a solid 331-8 on board in their 50 overs. To win this one the Zimbabwean batsmen needed to show lot of resolve and determination to bat long and to bat consistently for all the over’s in their innings. So did they, after some trouble in the top order their middle order came back hard and strong with Brendon Taylor (121 from 91 balls) and Sean Williams (96 from 83 balls) took them close to the target. The video here is of the catch which was eventually given out. The wicket that it got was of Williams who was 4 short of a well deserved hundred being declared out for 96. As we watch the replays it clearly suggests that the fielder Mooney there touched the ropes as he completed the catch. Ideally the third umpire should have given it not out, and six runs in favor of the batting side. But Williams had to walk back and Ireland won the match. These 6 runs could have well got the match in favor of Zimbabwe but the decision went wrong and the Irish won the match by 5 runs as Zim were all out for 326 in 49.3 over’s.
