Watch: Mark Taylor bowls out the batsman, but Umpire adjourns it not out: We have seen the batsmen getting out bowled, missing the line of the ball, some get foxed by the pace, spin or bounce. But there are these uncanny ones, the unusual dismissals, those which leave the batsmen, bowlers and some times even the umpires confused, as to what the verdict should be.

Here is this game from 1999. The match between England and the Australia President XI’s side. The former Aussie skipper Mark Taylor, came on to bowl. England were at 210 for the loss of 8 wickets as Middlesex seamer Angus Fraser was on the strike. Taylor delivered a loopy leg-spinner. But being a non-regular bowler he had little control over the length.

To Mark’s delight the batsman too had little idea about it, and even lesser on how to dispatch the gift. As he delivered it, the ball pitched half way down the track, was a desirable ball to wait on the backfoot, and to hit choosing your favorite spot on the ground. But Angus danced down the wicket, in an attempt to thrash it over and out. The ball first bounced just ahead of the charging batsman and directed enough to deceive his swing of the bat.

Dodging the slog, she went behind him, but had little legs to move any further. The ball bounced one more time, behind the batsman, also giving him time to turn around and look at what was happening to his stumps. After bumping into the pitch one more time, the ball kissed the stumps and to the disbelief and displeasure of the batsman, he missed the ball but she did not.

Taylor was happy with the wicket until the on-field umpire Simon Taufel ruled it not-out much to his disappointment and delight of Fraser. As per the rules, if a ball bounces more than twice it is considered not-out, but Taufel took the decision keeping in mind the spirit of the game. Later in an Ashes show, Taylor named that ball as Mazota which is bowled like a flipper which gave the other guests laughter of their life.
