The much-awaited IPL 2020 is all set to hit the floors in September this year. The tournament was initially postponed in March in the wake of coronavirus outbreak. However, the wait of ardent cricket fans is finally going to end next month when the tournament is set to unfold in UAE from September 19th.

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, the Indian board decided to shift the cash-rich league to a new venue altogether– UAE. To prepare a roadmap for this year’s IPL, the Governing Council recently made and took many decisions regarding the feasibility of the league.

The BCCI, amid COVID-19 debacle, is expected to take all the necessary measures to host the cash-rich league amid the pandemic. Indian players and support staff will have to return negative for COVID-19 at least five times before they start training in the UAE. Furthermore, they will be tested every fifth day during the course of the tournament.

Fans had lambasted BCCI for continuing with Vivo as title sponsor

In the Governing Council on Sunday, it was decided also that the board will be retaining all the sponsors for the upcoming IPL. The BCCI’s move had attracted much criticism as Vivo, a Chinese company, was IPL’s title sponsor. Many fans insisted the BCCI to shun the Chinese sponsorship ahead of the start of the league this year.

Considering the border tensions between India and China, fans lambasted BCCI for continuing with Vivo and the protest started trending on social media in no time. The mood across India has been anti-China ever since the stand-off between the two countries at the Galwan border began. In the wake of it, Vivo, on Tuesday, announced that they’ve pulled out as the title sponsors of the thirteenth edition of IPL.

It was reported that Vivo backed out voluntarily seeing the negativity around its name. The news of Vivo’s exit spread like wildfire on social media, resulting in fans taking to social media to suggest new sponsors to the BCCI. A few hilarious names also came into the picture as Indian brands Reliance Jio, Patanjali and a few others were at the forefront of the suggestions.
